Cand. philol. (literature), University of Oslo 1968. Studies in Mexico 1971-72.

Worked for NRK, main Norwegian TV and radio channel 1971-2004. Foreign news reporter in Spain, Italy and Portugal 1974-76. Permanent foreign correspondent in Paris 1976-79. Foreign news reporter in Central America, Poland and Iraq 1980-85. Host of arts and letters shows 1986-94. Series on Norwegian food history 1995-96. Mainly documentaries 1997-2004.

Courses and guest lectures on food history at Norwegian, French and Italian universities.

Editorial board member 2003-13, Food & History.

Awards for journalism on European questions and on food history and nutrition.
